Does anyone else want to try me? Monday October 8
I've mentioned before the individuals who park their delivery trucks outside our building during lunch and sleep with the ignition on.
This weekend, I was talking to Todd on the phone about some of the things about Japanese culture that drive me crazy. One of those things is the passive-aggressive nature that drives this society: complain to your friends, but never tell the offending individual they've done anything wrong. One of the best days of my life in Japan was when I was using my mobile phone (for mail, I wasn't talking) in the "no mobile phone" section of the train car (I wasn't aware I was in violation of the rule, despite the fact that everyone does it, and an older Japanese guy turns to me and says, "can you please turn that off here?"
Instead of complaining, I guess I need to be more proactive.
There was a DHL driver the other day idling outside our building again, so I took a picture of his license plate (and the vehicle itself) with my mobile phone and sent it to DHL along with a nice e-mail explaining that I didn't appreciate it, and I thought it was a waste of fuel.
I received this nice response today:
ディー・エイチ・エル・ジャパン、カスタマーサービス森と申します。 この度は当社集配員がお客様に不快な思いをさせてしまい誠に申し訳ございません。 お客様のご指摘通り燃料費の問題はもとより環境への問題もございますので、 ご報告くださいました車両ナンバーから集配員を特定し、即刻集配員の上司に報告の上 適切な指導を行わせます。この度はご丁寧なメール誠にありがとうございました。感謝申し上げます。
For the non-Japanese speakers, it says that they are sorry to have caused the inconvenience, that they agree it is a problem to idle aimlessly, and that they will direct this to the boss of that driver.
Does anyone else want to try me?
