Should I wait? Tuesday November 22

Either way, I'll do what I end up deciding is best for me. However, in the interim, I would like to throw the following request for comment out there for fun.

Should I apply for graduate school for next fall, or should I wait a year first?

I appreciate any time you take to comment, even if it is a simply "do it" or "wait".

Well, what would you do instead? Honestly, if you've got something to do besides grad school, then put it off. If not, I would say go to grad school.

Apply. Then, defer... if something better comes along. That's what I did. (And here I am, a semester away from graduating, three years later....) Ash

Do it if you know what you want to go to grad school for. You can always defer if something else comes along.

Well... that depends in part on what you think you'll do with the year in between.... and what you're going to grad school for. There's a lot to be said for having "life experience" before Grad School. On the other hand, you're having quite the experience now, living in Japan and all. I'd get ready to apply, whether you do it or not. Get started with the various supporting documents for your application. If you decide to wait, next year you'll have a huge head start.

apply if you know what you want to specialize in for sure... i'm taking time until the next year because my current job is preparing me well for grad school :)

Mark, it does my heart good to see the advice that you get from friends --- collectively their advice seems very good. Whatever you do ---any chance to do it close to us --- there are times that I miss the old times shared with all my sons. Love Dad

Whatever you choose to do, I second Helen's advice. Getting all the appropriate materials together is definitely time-consuming. As to when to apply, consider how graduate study or lack thereof would affect your work opportunities, both in the short term, and with regard to what you'd like to accomplish in your career.
