top ten of sophomore year Thursday June 27

while at the hostel, i was grooving to my discman -- and it struck me that every year, i tend to have a few songs that i really listened to frequently, for whatever reason, and that i should compiled a top-ten before i forget. therefore, sophomore year of college is given below:

honorable mention:
incubus - aqueous transmission
radiohead - morning bell
trik turner - friends and family [only for the wpgu aspect]

ten: ben folds - fired
nine: bob dylan - shelter from the storm [live at budokan]
eight: dispatch - the general
seven:the reindeer section - sting
six: led zeppelin - fool in the rain
five: guster - two points for honesty
four: opm - el capitan
three: phish - wading in the velvet sea
two: oar - crazy game of poker
one: wilco - i am trying to break your heart

anyway, so there it is. not necessarily the best songs, or my favorite, but all songs that will most likely forever make me think of that crazy second year in good ol' forty-one.

hmmm....top ten songs of the last year eh, I'm game (just a disclaimer most of these are not new songs but rediscovered classics) 10. Nelly Furtado: Turn off the lights (before it was on the radio) 9. Train: Free 8. U2: Running to Stand Still 7. Guster: The Harder They Come 6. Phish: Free 5. Wilco: Red Eyed Blue 4. Barenaked Ladies: Old Apartment 3. Dave Brubeck: Take Five 2. Counting Crows: Round here 1. Moxy Fruvous: Gulf War Song Honorable mentions: Moxy Fruvous: The Drinking Song or My Baby Loves a bunch of Authors Dog's Eye View: everything falls apart - was tough to keep this one out of the top 10 Prodigy: Smack my b**** up, bonus pts for 1103 soundtrack and a few nights dancing at Erin's place I know a broke a rule by putting two songs up there with the same name but anyone who knows the songs would attest to a vast difference between them (in case the artists didn't give that away)

well, you know how i am... a fiend for any top 10, top 5, top 3, top anything list... just a note... most of these songs made the list either because i often forgot to take my cds with me to danville, so i'd end up listening to the same cd all the way there and back for at least a week... or my shuffle on winamp is afraid to try new things... honorable mention: daphne rubin-vega (original mimi from rent) - without you ten: bill joel - scenes from an italian restaurant nine: john denver or chantal kreviazuk - leaving on a jet plane eight: ben folds - still fighting it seven: radiohead - everything in its right place six: ryan adams - new york new york five: john mayer - comfortable four: guster - two points for honesty three: ani difranco - when you were mine two: straight no chaser - insomniac one: fleetwood mac - landslide

better late than never, right? here we go: honor roll: Moulin Rouge soundtrack, Marching Illini soundtrack 10. Kylie Minogue - Can't Get You Outta My Head 9. RENT - No Day But Today 8. Max Bruch - Concerto for Violin & Orchestra in G Minor 7. Dave Matthews Band - The Space Between 6. Guster - X-Ray Eyes 5. Incubus - I Miss You 4. Weezer - The World Has Turned 3. Alanis Morissette - Hands Clean 2. Guster - So Long 1. Ben Folds - The Luckiest i know most of these songs are about relationships. 1,2,3,6 & 7 pertain to a certain guy. 4 & 5 relate to a friend who left school. 8 reminds me of orchestra, 9 was to keep myself psyched, & 10 was from a very fun night in london. honor roll consists of music that reminds me of (very) long train rides during my spring break.
